Vegetarian-Friendly Restaurants across Canada
Eat North has published a useful list of vegetarian-friendly restaurants across Canada. Rebar in Victoria has so many options it’s hard to choose. Nourish Bistro in Banff is great, and I’ve heard very good things about The Coup in Calgary. Hopefully next time Eat North makes a list like this, they’ll include Nosh Eatery & Tap in Saskatoon.

Smarter School Architecture Helps Kids Eat Healthier Food
I was intrigued by an article about how smarter school architecture can help kids eat healthier food. Design strategies included making the commercial kitchen visible from the dining room, having a teaching kitchen so kids can learn to cook and a food lab for food-related science experiments. You can also place healthy meals at child level and have the salad bar near the checkout counter.

“We can't just change what's on the menu and expect to see the changes we hope to find in children," Sorensen says. The key, she says, is for architects to work with multi-disciplinary teams, since a single group or solution on its own likely can't make enough of a change in health.”

Vegan Ultra Runner
Scott Jurek ran the Appalachian Trail in 46 days on a vegan diet. He says, “One thing that’s misconstrued about a plant-based diet is that it’s all just fruit and nuts. People assume that you can’t get full off a plant-based diet, but it really comes down to the amount of food you eat, and getting enough healthy fats. I’m one of these people that likes to eat. That’s the beauty of a plant-based diet; unless you’re eating junk food, you get to eat a lot.”
