Saskatoon Farmers’ Market Hours
An online petition is requesting that the Saskatoon Farmers’ Market be open 6 days a week. It’s a great concept, but we would need way more vendors as you can’t expect farmers or food producers to sell and produce food at one and the same time. Farmers need to be in the field; bakers need to be in the kitchen. A local farmers’ market is not and should not be a supermarket with all kinds of food at all hours and days of the week.

Lonsdale Quay Night Market
I visited the Lonsdale Quay Night Market with friends this week. I really, really enjoyed the ‘Crack’ Salad with brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, kale, cabbage, capers, cracked chillies, lemon juice and parmesan cheese from the Le Tigre food truck.

I didn't really enjoy the Hopping Mad cider from Central City Brewery (a dry-sweet cider blending Yakima valley hops with fresh pressed apples from the Pacific Northwest),but I loved the idea of a drinks truck.

Buzzworthy Restaurants
Here’s another article from Eat North with 12 Buzzworthy Restaurants from across Canada. I’m pleased to see two restaurants listed that have excellent vegetarian options. Mission in Vancouver lists a vegetarian tasting menu with everything from cauliflower porridge to pea and turnip tart. Pigeonhole in Calgary has a number of vegetarian options, including chewy beets with a goat cheese meringue and glazed baby turnips with cherry, miso and mint.
