Saskatoon Farmers’ Market
The Saskatoon Farmers’ Market is back outdoors. Be sure to get there early to pick up a bouquet of locally grown tulips from Kaleidoscope Vegetable Gardens. Don’t miss the sprouts from Green Cycle City Farm, and tomatoes from Grandora Gardens. If you’re planting a garden, take a look aat Blazing Star Wildflower Seed Company’s native plants and heirloom tomatoes.
Around Britain by Cake
If you’re an avid anglophile or a curious baker, this book is for you. In Around Britain by Cake, Caroline Taggart travels the country, talking to bakers about regional specialty cakes. Some are to be expected – Eccles Cakes, Parkin, and Chelsea Buns – but others are less well known – for example, Brighton Buttons, Godcakes, and Dorset Knobs. Be prepared for multiple variations on a theme involving pastry, raisins/currants, and spices and lots of recipes.
Flavourful Saskatoon is a weekly Monday feature. I also post articles about food that is good, clean and fair; travel; and books. You may also enjoy EcoFriendly Sask profiling Saskatchewan environmental initiatives and events.
